Angelfish – Freshwater Fish

Freshwater Angelfish at Pisces Reef Fish Emporium

Angelfish are freshwater fish. These tall fish are long time favorites among aquarists. Angelfish are not aggressive. They can be kept with a community of fish as long as the other fish aren’t too aggressive either. Angelfish belong to the cichlid family. Angelfish are shy cichlids. Because of being so tall, a tall tank is ideal. Angelfish are sensitive to poor water quality, so efficient filtration and biweekly partial water changes are musts. They prefer a slightly acidic environment (pH5.8 to 6.2). They also need sufficient swimming room. Live or artificial plants and/or driftwood or bog wood should be used to create a sense of security. Angelfish are not picky eaters. They will eat commercial flakes and/or freeze-dried foods. As most fish require, their diet should be supplemented with live foods such as blood worms or brine shrimp. Occasionally, angelfish should also be provided with vegetables such as parboiled romaine lettuce, zucchini, or peas. Angelfish are somewhat easy to breed. It is almost impossible to recognize the difference in sexes physically, so it is usually best to put together three to six of them and let them pair up.
